Świątynia została odsłonięta w latach 1962-67 /Fig. 1/. W latach 1976-77 powstały dwie prace magisterskie na bazie dokumentacji fotograficznej reliefów świątynnych. W 1978 wznowiono prace w terenie – tym razem celem było odtworzenie dekoracji świątyni poprzez badania nad zachowanymi fragmentami wapiennych i piaskowcowych reliefów. Stopniowo udało się większość z nich połączyć w sceny i ciągi scen, zlokalizować je na planie świątyni i w ten sposób odtworzyć prawie całą dekorację i przystąpić do badań nad funkcją świątyni.

Opis stanowiska i badań:

Świątynia Totmesa III w Deir el-Bahari /Fig. 2/ została zrujnowana i całkowicie pogrzebana przez trzęsienie ziemi na początku XXI dynastii, a wcześniej przez jakiś czas służyła za źródło kamienia – zachowała się mniej niż połowa jej ścian z dekoracją reliefową, w postaci luźnych kamiennych fragmentów i bloków /Fig. 7, 8, 9, 10/.

Dzięki częściowo zachowanym narysom ścian na fragmentach posadzki można było odtworzyć plan świątyni /Fig. 3/ i próbować zlokalizować na planie zrekonstruowaną dekorację. Obecnie prace /Fig. 21, 22, 23, 24, 25/ koncentrują się na dalszej rekonstrukcji scen /Fig. 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19/, zabezpieczaniu polichromii i dokumentacji całości. Większość materiału przechowywana jest w magazynie /5/ usytuowanym w pobliżu świątyni, reszta zaś na terenie świątyni i w lapidarium; na terenie samej świątyni widoczne są bazy i fragmenty kolumn in situ, zrekonstruowany częściowo granitowy portal /Fig. 4/ i nieliczne fragmenty dolnych części ścian.

Ponieważ udało się już zrekonstruować fizycznie większą część wschodniej ściany sanktuarium można myśleć o ustawieniu jej na jej oryginalnym miejscu /Fig. 20/. Kolejne partie świątyni, odtworzone wirtualnie, wymagają jeszcze wielkiej pracy konserwatorów.
