In 2020 and 2021 four long-time employees of the Polish Centre of Mediterranean Archaeology UW went into retirement. In early September, a farewell meeting of the PCMA staff with the new retirees was held at the PCMA office.
Dr. Zbigniew Szafrański, an archaeologist and Egyptologist, served as deputy director of PCMA UW from 2000 to 2008, and as director of the PCMA UW Research Centre in Cairo from 2005 to 2015. For two decades since 1999, he headed the Polish-Egyptian Archaeological and Conservation Mission to the Temple of Hatshepsut in Deir el-Bahari, contributing not only to the development of research on that site, but also to the popularization of Polish research in Egypt among the general public.
Ewa Domańska worked in the Center’s administration department since 2000, handling the paperwork for field expeditions. Everyone who dealt with the PCMA UW office at that time had an opportunity to appreciate her competence, diligence and, what is equally important, invariable kindness.
Anka Południkiewicz started work in the PCMA UW office in 1989, all the time remaining an active archaeologist and ceramologist. While formally taking care of PCMA property, she also cared for the Centre’s employees and collaborators, surrounding them with care and helping them in countless matters of everyday life.
Since 1996 Marek Puszkarski, as a full-time draughtsman has worked with PCMA UW expeditions in six countries at several archaeological sites, drawing literally everything that needed to be documented, from the smallest flint tools to plans of entire architectural complexes.
