We are pleased to announce that Dr. Mariusz Gwiazda has been awarded the degree of doktor habilitowany (postdoctoral degree). The decision was made by the Council of the Discipline of Archaeology at the University of Warsaw on February, 19th 2026.
The habilitation was based on his thesis entitled The Development and Transformations of Philoxenite in the Context of Settlement and Environmental Changes in the Mareotis Region (Egypt).
Dr. hab. Mariusz Gwiazda’s research interests focus on the archaeology of the Near East and Egypt, with particular emphasis on the Late Antique and Early Islamic periods. He specializes in the study of domestic architecture, ceramic building materials, and ancient marbles. His scholarly work also includes research on bone artefacts and funerary architecture in the Near East.
Dr. hab. Mariusz Gwiazda is an Assistant Professor at the Polish Centre of Mediterranean Archaeology, University of Warsaw, affiliated with the Department of Greek, Roman and Byzantine Culture Studies. He has authored numerous academic publications and has both participated in and led research projects.
