Rector’s Distinctions for Dr. Mariusz Drzewiecki and Dr. Mariusz Gwiazda

The ceremony to present the UW Rector’s Teaching Awards and the Rector’s Distinctions was held on November 15, 2023. Among the employees of the Centre of Mediterranean Archaeology, University of Warsaw, Dr. Mariusz Drzewiecki and Dr. Mariusz Gwiazda received the Distinction.

Dr. Mariusz Drzewiecki and Dr. Mariusz Gwiazda, employees of the Centre of Mediterranean Archaeology, University of Warsaw, were awarded for their innovative solutions and methods that contributed to the university’s growth and prestige.

Dr. Mariusz Drzewiecki specializes in the medieval and modern kingdoms of the Northeast Africa. In 2022, he co-authored a book titled “Forts of North Omdurman,” which provides information about nine forts in the Upper Nubian area.

Dr. Mariusz Gwiazda is a co-director of the Polish-American Expedition in Berenike. His research interests include the Late Antique and Early Islamic periods in Egypt and the Middle East. In 2022, he co-authored two articles. The first one summarizes the current knowledge of burial customs in Syria and Palestine during the early Byzantine period, while the second one discusses six modular buildings at the Philoxenite site.
