As part of the “PCMA Seminar” series, Iwona Zych will present the lecture “The burial landscape of Berenike on the Red Sea coast: 25 years of research”. The meeting will be held on Zoom.
The lecture will present an overview of graves from the harbor of Berenike on the Red Sea coast of Egypt discovered over 25 years of fieldwork by the Dutch-American and Polish-American expeditions. Both formal cemeteries and individual graves were found. They span a time from the 1st century BC/1st century AD through the 5th century AD. The presentation will highlight the changes in burial customs at the site over this period.
