Conference: Poles on the Nile 2016/2017

The annual conference „Poles on the Nile”, co-organized by the Department of the Archaeology of Egypt and Nubia (Institute of Archaeology, University of Warsaw) and the Polish Centre of Mediterranean Archaeology, University of Warsaw, will be held on 12–14 June 2017.

Most of the papers presented during the three-day-long event will report on the most recent results of fieldwork and studies by Polish archaeological missions working in Egypt and Sudan. Work of Polish scholars within the framework of foreign projects will also be featured among the presentations.

A special lecture The Red Monastery Church (Upper Egypt) in Context” will be presented by this year’s invited speaker, prof. Elizabeth Bolman (Temple University in Philadelphia).

As 2017 sees two anniversaries related to Polish presence in Egypt – 90 years of Egyptian–Polish diplomatic relations and 80 years of Polish excavations in Egypt – there will be a special session on these jubilee topics. They are also the themes of three exhibitions that will open at the University of Warsaw on this occasion.
