“Poles on the Nile”: guest lecture by Prof. Dietrich Raue

During this year’s conference “Poles on the Nile”, Prof. Dietrich Raue (Director of the German Archaeological Institute, Cairo) will present: “Together against the time – Archaeology in Egypt”.

Abstract: The challenges facing archaeology in Egypt today are manifold. On the scientific side, it is important to question the hypotheses of past times and to utilize the possibilities of modern methodology and analytics. At the same time, the archaeological disciplines of Egypt and restoration sciences are dealing with the increasingly clear effects of climate change. Last but not least, the resolution, quality and speed of archaeological documentation is also increasingly to be adapted to the pace of the country’s development and its demographic situation.

In all these areas, Polish colleagues are working intensively and successfully in the international community for the goal of preserving the cultural heritage in the Egyptian-Sudanese Nile Valley.

The lecture is scheduled for Thursday, the 9th, at 5:00 PM.It will be held in a hybrid form – online on the Zoom platform and in room 2.12. at the Faculty of Archaeology, University of Warsaw.
