The Polish Centre of Mediterranean Archaeology, University of Warsaw, invites expressions of interest from bioarchaeologists for potential collaboration on two interdisciplinary research projects in Old Dongola, Sudan. This non-binding announcement is intended to explore potential collaboration opportunities ahead of a formal recruitment process planned for late 2025.
These projects focus on the daily lives, environment, and spatial organization of Tungul (Old Dongola), the medieval and early modern capital of the Makurian Kingdom and later the Funj Sultanate. The collaboration, expected to last at least five years, includes osteological and biomolecular analysis of human remains, integration of bioarchaeological data with broader archaeological and environmental studies, and co-authorship of reports and a final project monograph.
Interested candidates are asked to submit a brief expression of interest by May 31, 2025.
Full details are available in the attached announcement (PDF).
