It is with great sadness that we have received the news of the passing of Professor Michał Kobusiewicz, PhD, on October 21st. A distinguished scholar in prehistoric archaeology, he was closely associated for many years with the Polish Centre of Mediterranean Archaeology at the University of Warsaw, serving as a member of its Scientific Council from 2005 to 2012.
His research spanned both the prehistory of Poland and the early cultures of Africa. For nearly 30 years, he led the Department of Greater Poland Archaeology at the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Poznań, establishing himself as one of the foremost experts on the Early and Middle Stone Age in the region. He also played a key role in numerous archaeological projects in Egypt and Sudan.
Professor Kobusiewicz was a long-standing member of expeditions under the auspices of the PCMA UW, particularly in Kadero (Sudan), and contributed to research at the Fourth Cataract of the Nile and Khor Shambat. For over a decade, he directed the expedition in Dakhla Oasis (Egypt). He also participated in excavations at Saqqara, as well as in many other archaeological projects in Africa and the Middle East, conducted by Polish and international institutions.
We offer our heartfelt condolences to his family.
