CANCELLED: PCMA Seminar – UMMA ERC StG results

We are very sorry to inform you that for reasons beyond our control, the talk by Dr. Artur Obłuski at the PCMA Seminar  on Thursday 20th April had to be cancelled.

This April, the PCMA Seminar will host a talk by Dr. Artur Obłuski who will present the preliminary results of his research project in Old Dongola, Sudan funded by an European Research Council Starting Grant (ERC StG). His talk is entitled:  “UMMA ERC StG results. Why should basic research be funded”

Abstract: “The talk presents preliminary results of the “UMMA: Urban Metamorphosis of the community of a Medieval African capital city” project funded by the European Research Council. The project is the first study of the liminal phases of a Christian African community inhabiting Dongola, the economic, administrative and religious centre of the kingdom of Makuria (modern Sudan). Makuria was one of the most important medieval African kingdoms, which thrived from the end of the 4th century to the end of the 15th century CE. The project concerns the twilight of Christian Dongola and the metamorphosis of its urban community into a new entity organised along different social and religious paradigms.”

The seminar will be held on Thursday, 20th April at 1 pm CET on Zoom. To obtain a link, please write to the PCMA UW office: pcma@uw.edu.pl
