PCMA scholar’s seminar: Preliminary research at the Post-Roman cemetery at Berenike

The PCMA UW Research Centre in Cairo organized another PCMA scholar’s seminar. Due to the pandemic, the events still remain closed to the public.

Fabian Amadeus Joakim Mydlak presented a talk titled “Preliminary research at the Post-Roman cemetery at Berenike”.

Abstract: Post-Roman Berenike was a culturally diverse town ruled by the Blemmyes. Most of its inhabitants lived there seasonally, only the representatives of local tribes lived there permanently. And it was on the cemetery belonging to these tribes that the expedition’s work focused this season, for the first time since the beginning of the archaeological research about 20 years ago. During the presentation, the results of this season’s research were presented, and the types of burials that have been identified were discussed.

The seminar was held on Thursday, February 17, 2022.
