Description of the site and research:

The epigraphic mission working in the tomb of Ramesses VI aimed to fully document the several hundred graffiti left on the walls by pilgrims. Most of the inscriptions date to the Roman period and are written in Greek; Latin, Demotic, and Coptic were used less often. The inscriptions were carved with a sharp tool or painted in black ink (red in a few cases). Usually, the visitors inscribed only their names, although they often added their occupation and place of origin as well. A few longer texts described the beauty of the tomb, some were of a religious character (proskynema), and some turned out to be fragments of poetry.
