Prof. Martina Seifert will present an open lecture “Cities and Harbours. Non-invasive research in Archaeology at the University of Hamburg”.
Abstract: “Since 2012, the University of Hamburg has a teaching and research focus in the field of non-invasive fieldwork and prospecting. In recent years, a digital research environment has been increasingly developed for these projects. The investigations take place on invitation and in cooperation with partner universities such as the Jagiellonian University Krakow, the University of Palermo or the Archaeological Park Xanten. The lecture will present current case studies of geophysical prospection in the field of urban (and port) research. It discusses potentials and limitations that these methods offer for archaeological research.”
Prof. Seifert is in charge of geophysical prospection and archaeometry at the Department of Classical Archaeology at the University of Hamburg (UH), and is also associate dean for international affairs at the UH Faculty of Humanities. At the PCMA UW she will be involved in consultations for the project “On the wings of revolution – the application of drone-based GPR in archaeological research”.
The lecture will take place on Tuesday, 7th February, at 2 pm in the Tomasz mikocki Hall (210) at the Faculty of Archaeology, University of Warsaw.
