In April, the PCMA Seminars focus on collaborative archaeology and heritage studies. The second lecture in the “Heritage Month” series will be Nubian agricultural practices, crops, and heritage presented by Dr. Philippa Ryan.
Abstract: “Interviews with elderly farmers in the Sukoot revealed little-recorded shifts in crops grown as well as interconnections with changing foodways, material culture, and land use. The previously prominent food crops are more arid tolerant and were also important in the archaeological past. Part of the research included co-producing a community-oriented book to try and help preserve local agricultural histories.”
The seminar will be held on Thursday, 21st April, at 11.30 am CET on Zoom. To obtain links, please write to Dr. Tomomi Fushiya: t.fushiya@uw.edu.pl or to PCMA office: pcma@uw.edu.pl
The aim of the “Heritage Month” organized by Dr. Tomomi Fushiya (PCMA UW) is to introduce archaeologists and students to different approaches and practices of collaborative archaeology and heritage studies. With leading researchers and practitioners active in North Africa and Near East as guest speakers, the lecture series provides ideas about how community engagement can be designed, how collaboration with local communities enhances archaeological research, why it is important to think about the past from a local perspective, and why collaborative archaeology is so important today.
The next lecture will be:
