Scholars working on Sudanese pottery will gather in Warsaw for a workshop organized within the frame of the Levantine Ceramics Project (LCP). It is scheduled to take place on 22nd and 23rd of May, 2018 and is co-hosted by the Polish Centre of Mediterranean Archaeology, University of Warsaw and the Institute of Mediterranean and Oriental Cultures, Polish Academy of Sciences.
The LCP is a collaborative venture of archaeologists working on Levantine ceramics of all eras. Its aim is to create an online resource that will serve as a platform of information exchange between ceramologists working in different parts of the Mediterranean and neighboring regions. To date it hosts information contributed by over 250 scholars.
The Warsaw workshop will be the first one focused on pottery from excavations in Sudan – both of local manufacture and imported from other regions, but will reach out also to Aksum in neighbouring Ethopia. It will also involve a presentation by Prof. Andrea Berlin (Boston University), the project leader, on the LCP in general, and on the practical aspects of using the database.
