PCMA has welcomed a new visiting Scholar— Nahid Abdelatif, a Sudanese archaeologist, a PhD candidate at the University of Khartoum and a lecturer in the Department of Archaeology at the University of Bahri. Her research interests include Nubian archaeology, landscape studies, and the use of digital tools in heritage research.
Her PhD project, titled “Pre-Kerma and Kerma Archaeological Sites in Paleochannels: A Case Study of Wadi Farja,” explores archaeological sites from the Pre-Kerma and Kerma periods in Upper Nubia, specifically concentrating on Wadi Farja in northern Sudan. This research investigates the cultural evolution of early Nubian communities in relation to their environmental contexts, utilizing GIS-based spatial analysis as a key methodological approach.
The purpose of the current academic affiliation with PCMA is to strengthen the analytical framework of the dissertation, benefit from interdisciplinary research resources, and engage in scholarly exchange with researchers working on similar themes in Sudan.
Her stay is supported by the Gerda Henkel Foundation under the “Scholar at Risk” program.
