Meeting with the Ambassador of the Republic of Sudan

On July 3rd, the Polish Centre of Mediterranean Archaeology, University of Warsaw hosted a delegation from the Embassy of the Republic of Sudan in Berlin. The meeting was attended by Her Excellency Ambassador Ilham Ahmed, Deputy Ambassador Idrees Saeed, and Ghalia Gar El-Nabi, Director of the National Corporation for Antiquities and Museums.

Representing the PCMA UW were Dr. hab. Artur Obłuski, Assoc. Prof., Director of the PCMA UW; Dr. Katarzyna de Lellis-Danys, Head of the Department of Greek, Roman and Byzantine Culture Studies PCMA UW; and Dr. Maciej Wyżgoł, Head of the Department of African Studies PCMA UW.

The meeting served as a valuable opportunity to explore future cooperation, focusing on support during the ongoing crisis and initiatives aimed at protecting heritage and rebuilding infrastructure. Plans were made for additional discussions with foundations and institutions capable of providing assistance for these efforts.

The delegation also met with the Rector of the University of Warsaw, Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, Dr. Bartosz Kontny, Assoc. Prof., Dean of the Faculty of Archaeology UW and Dr. Nagmeldin Karamalla-Gaiballa (Faculty of Oriental Studies and the Research Centre of Culture and Art of Asia and Africa).

The visit concluded with a tour of the Faras Gallery at the National Museum in Warsaw, guided by Dr. Katarzyna de Lellis-Danys.
