On April 17, 2025, the PCMA UW Research Centre in Cyprus was visited by the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, His Excellency Willem Wouter Plomp.
The visit, initiated by the Ambassador, aimed to establish connections between Polish and Dutch archaeologists and to learn more about the academic activities of the PCMA UW in Cyprus. Special attention was given to the potential for research collaboration and the opportunities offered by the Polish Research Centre in relation to the work of the Dutch archaeological expedition at Chlorakas-Palloures (Link to expedition website).
Participants in the meeting included representatives from Leiden University: Dr. Victor Klinkenberg (also affiliated with the University of Cyprus), Prof. Bleda Düring, and Maria Hadjigavriel. Discussions focused on the possibility of future joint projects and the exchange of expertise between the teams. The potential for organizing joint lectures for the local community was also addressed.
On the Polish side, the guests were welcomed by Prof. Ewdoksia Papuci-Władyka – Director of the PCMA UW Research Centre in Cyprus, and Dr. Paweł Lech (PCMA UW). The visitors also had the opportunity to observe ongoing excavations at the archaeological site of Nea Paphos – a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Ambassador’s visit reflects the growing interest in fostering integration among European research communities and in supporting initiatives that enhance international archaeological collaboration in Cyprus.
