We were deeply saddened by the news that Professor Stan Hendrickx, a long-time friend of the Polish archaeological community and valued permanent member of the Editorial Board of the journal “Polish Archaeology in the Mediterranean”, passed away on 27 December 2023 at the age of 69.
Stan Hendrickx was a Belgian Egyptologist specialized in Predynastic and Pharaonic Egypt. His main area of expertise was ceramic studies, but his research played a profound role in several fields of research on material culture, iconography, and archaeology, including stone vessels, lithics, state formation, and rock art. He took part in excavations and research at many major sites in Egypt including El Kab, Adaima, Mahgar Dendera, Deir el-Bersha, Hierakonpolis, Kôm Ombo and Aswan.
He will be missed by his friends and colleagues in the field of Egyptology.
