Conference on Polish archaeological and conservation work in Lebanon

The conference “Poles in Lebanon” is organized by the Polish Centre of Mediterranean Archaeology, University of Warsaw,  in cooperation with the Institute of Archaeology, University of Warsaw. Papers presented at the conference will include reports on the results of the latest season of fieldwork of Polish archaeological and conservation missions in Lebanon.

Ongoing projects will be reported on by researchers and students of the University of Warsaw and the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, as well as by the missions’ associates from other academic institutions in Poland and abroad.

Commenting on the conference program, Assoc. Prof. Tomasz Waliszewski, director of the PCMA and of the Polish archaeological missions to Chhim and Jiyeh, said “During the two-day event we will sum up, among others, the current state of research in Chhim and Jiyeh. We will present the results of a survey in the Iqlim el-Kharrub province. Based on the Awliya Allah, we will demonstrate the use of GIS software in archaeological survey work. We will also discuss conservation activities in conjunction with archaeological fieldwork in Lebanon and expound on the research on early Byzantine wall paintings as well as on the conservation and restoration of wall paintings in St Phocas Church in Amioun.”
