On 19 November 2010 Prof. Karol Myśliwiec received a honorary “PEARL” in the field of science, awarded in the eight edition of the “Pearls of Business” Awards organized by “Polish Market”, a Polish business periodical. The distinction is awarded for distinguished achievement in shaping Poland’s image abroad, taking into consideration ethical as well as professional aspects. The “Pearls” were presented in a ceremony at the Royal Castle in Warsaw by European Parliament President Prof. Jerzy Buzek and President of the Polish Academy of Sciences Prof. Michał Kleiber. Other recipients of the award this year included humanitarian aid activist Janina Ochojska and European Union commissar Prof. Janusz Lewandowski.
Prof. Karol Myśliwiec thanked his colleagues and associates, including the Polish Centre of Mediterranean Archaeology of the University of Warsaw, for the years of joint efforts standing behind his achievement.
Prof. Myśliwiec is longtime head of the PCMA’s archaeological expedition in Saqqara where he has been exploring a section of an Ancient Egyptian necropolis to the west of the Step Pyramid of Djoser regularly since 1997. He has also directed the Centre’s excavations at Tell Atrib, an important Ptolemaic period site in the Egyptian Nile Delta and participated as an egyptologist and archaeologist in numerous Polish and foreign archaeological projects in Egypt. For years he directed the Research Center for Mediterranean Archaeology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (ZAŚ PAN, recently reestablished as the Academy’s Institute of Ancient Cultures and the Orient, IKSiO PAN).
