The Polish Centre of Mediterranean Archaeology, University of Warsaw, warmly congratulates its new PhD candidates on their admission to the Doctoral School of Humanities, University of Warsaw.
Among those admitted are Zofia Chomoncik and Jerzy Kozak, who have been associated with the archaeological expeditions of the Polish Centre of Mediterranean Archaeology, University of Warsaw, for several years. Also among those admitted is Nikhil Priyadarshi, whose research will be carried out within the framework of PCMA UW research projects.
Zofia Chomoncik has participated in the Centre’s archaeological projects at Nea Paphos in Cyprus and Berenike in Egypt. She is also an intern at the Department of Greek, Roman and Byzantine Culture Studies of the PCMA UW. Her doctoral dissertation, supervised by Dr hab. Urszula Wicenciak-Núñez (PCMA UW), is entitled: “Between Tradition and Adaptation: Utilitarian Pottery and Local Production Systems in Nea Paphos and Selected Centres of the Phoenician Coast during the Late Hellenistic and Early Roman Periods.”
Jerzy Kozak has been a member of the PCMA UW excavations at Berenike for many years. He is also a member of the research team of the project led by Dr Emilia Smagur (PCMA UW): “Inhabiting post-Roman Egyptian port: the households of Berenike“. His doctoral dissertation, supervised by Dr hab. Joanna Then-Obłuska, Associate Professor at the Centre for Research on the Antiquity of South-Eastern Europe, University of Warsaw, is entitled: “Between the Desert and the Coast: Personal Adornments as an Element of the Material Practices of Blemmyan Communities in the Eastern Desert during Late Antiquity”.
The new cohort of PhD students also includes Nikhil Priyadarshi, whose research will be conducted within the framework of PCMA UW research projects. His doctoral dissertation is entitled: “Growing Up in Medieval Makuria: A Bioarchaeological Study of Growth and Development in Juvenile Skeletal Remains from Old Dongola, Sudan”.
