Professor Eman Khalifa at the PCMA UW

On 15–16 June 2026, the Polish Centre of Mediterranean Archaeology, University of Warsaw (PCMA UW), had the pleasure of hosting Professor Eman Khalifa of Cairo University.

On the first day of her visit, Professor Khalifa delivered a lecture entitled Pottery: A Multiple Analysis Approach, in which she presented her research on Egyptian ceramics and highlighted the importance of adopting an interdisciplinary approach to their study. The lecture was chaired by Professor Artur Obłuski, Director of the PCMA UW.

Following the lecture, a series of meetings was held with the participation of the Deputy Directors of the PCMA UW, Dr Mariusz Drzewiecki and Dr habil. Mariusz Gwiazda, as well as heads of departments and directors of archaeological expeditions conducting research in Egypt and Sudan. The discussions focused on prospects for further developing academic cooperation between the Faculty of Archaeology at Cairo University and the PCMA UW, with particular emphasis on joint research initiatives and collaborative projects.

On the second day of her visit, Professor Khalifa visited the National Museum in Warsaw. She was given a guided tour of the Faras Gallery and the Gallery of Ancient Art by Dr Katarzyna de Lellis-Danys, of the MNW and Head of the Department of Greek, Roman and Byzantine Culture Studies at the PCMA UW, and Dr Anastasiia Stupko-Lubczynska, Head of the Department of Egyptian Archaeology at the PCMA UW.
