The XXVI International Congress of Roman Frontier Studies will be held in Batumi, Georgia, from September 8-14, 2024. It is the largest scientific conference focused on the research of the frontiers of the Roman Empire.
Held every three years, for over 70 years, the Limes Congress has provided a forum of disussion for about 400 specialists involved in the study of the Roman limes and the presence of Roman military and civilians in the frontier zone. The event is always hosted in countries whose territories were once part of the Roman Empire’s frontier. Hence, the venue for the 26th edition is Batumi on the Black Sea, although the congress is co-organized by the Polish Center of Mediterranean Archaeology and the Faculty of Archaeology of the University of Warsaw.
The congress, which will be held at the University of Batumi, includes 33 thematic sessions and a poster presentation session. A day has been reserved in the program for visiting the local museums and sightseeing, including a tour of the Roman fort at Gonio-Apsaros, excavated by a Polish-Georgian archaeological expedition.
