Exhibition mounted at the Royal Castle in Warsaw (Treasury Hall), from 28 June to 31 August 2012. The show presents the most important archaeological discoveries and the results of the comprehensive conservation effort made over the past fifty years by the team from the Polish Centre of Mediterranean Archaeology of the University of Warsaw.
More than 50 posters and exhibits from the National Museum in Warsaw illustrate the work of excavating an important site in the very heart of ancient Alexandria, in Egypt, and of preserving and restoring the ancient ruins in the form of an archaeological park, the Roman Theater on Kom el-Dikka, that has become a landmark on the tourist route in Alexandria. Not the least, the exhibition emphasizes an important discovery from recent years: the oldest archaeologically investigated ruins of an ancient university – the Alexandrian Academy of late antiquity.
Free entrance.
Accompanying the exhibition is a book in Polish, Starożytna Aleksandria. Polskie badania archeologiczne i prace konserwatorskie na Kom el-Dikka, presenting four essays written by long-time team members, people who have dedicated their lives to uncovering the buried glory of ancient Alexandria.
