For the sixth time, Institut français d’archéologie orientale (IFAO) and the Polish Centre of Mediterranean Archaeology, University of Warsaw (PCMA UW), are inviting applications for Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Cairo. This time, the fellowship will last 24 months, from May 2025 till April 2027.
The selected Post-Doctoral Fellow will be tasked with organizing an international two-day conference in Fall 2025 on a subject related to Ancient or Medieval Northeastern Africa (Egypt and/or Nubia). Applicants should outline the state of the art in their proposed subject and present how their work adds value to the study of past societies. Interdisciplinary proposals offering comparative perspectives on the region are particularly encouraged.
Following the conference, the Fellow will edit the proceedings for submission to the joint IFAO-PCMA editorial committee. The Fellow will also organize a series of at least four scientific meetings in 2026—two at PCMA and two at IFAO. These meetings (lectures, seminars, or workshops) should relate to the Fellow’s main research theme.
Applicants must hold a doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in a discipline related to the study of Ancient and Medieval Northeastern Africa and/or the Near East, awarded no more than seven years prior to 1st May 2025. The Fellowship is open to applicants of all nationalities.
Application Deadline: Applications must be submitted by 31st January 2025.
