Call for Papers: Nea Paphos Colloquium IV

The upcoming Nea Paphos Colloquium will be held in Poland to mark the 60th anniversary of archaeological research conducted by the Polish Centre of Mediterranean Archaeology (PCMA UW) in Paphos (1965–2025). This milestone celebrates the longstanding Polish contribution, representing the longest-running foreign archaeological project on the island of Cyprus, which has led to the establishment of the PCMA UW Research Centre in Cyprus.

The colloquium which will be held on 20–23 May 2025 first in Warsaw, than in Krakow, is co-organized by the Polish Centre of Mediterranean Archaeology, University of Warsaw, the Institute of Archaeology, Jagiellonian University, the Department of Antiquities of Cyprus, Avignon University and HiSoMA (ENS de Lyon).

The conference will cover the chronological scope from the pre-foundation period to the Middle Ages. Topics for presentations include:

  • The history of research in Nea Paphos, with a focus on developments since the 1960s
  • Architecture and urbanism studies
  • Research on material culture
  • The city’s water supply and economic history
  • Funerary practices and demography
  • Connections with Palaepaphos and the surrounding region

Conference Details:

  • Dates: 20–23 May 2025
  • Venues: Warsaw (20–21 May) and Krakow (22–23 May)
  • Participation: Free, with coffee breaks, lunches, two receptions, and transportation between Warsaw and Krakow included
