It is with deep regret that we received the news that our colleague and friend of the Polish-Georgian Gonio-Apsaros Expedition, former Director of the Archaeological Museum in Batumi, Professor of Archaeology Amiran Kakhidze, died suddenly on 10 November 2023.
Professor Amiran Kakhidze was a distinguished archaeologist, museum scientist, and specialist in the archaeology of Georgia. He was the director and researcher of one of the most renowned archaeological sites in Georgia (Pichvinari). He also served as Director of the Batumi Archaeological Museum for many years. He devoted his scientific life to the study of the culture of Colchis and its contacts with the Greek world, as well as to the study of the beginnings of metallurgy in Adjara (Georgia).
We extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends.
