The Polish Embassy in Cairo, in collaboration with the Polish Centre of Mediterranean Archaeology, University of Warsaw, hosted the International Day of Archaeology on Thursday, October 26th.
The event was attended by a diverse group of representatives from MoTA, UNESCO, universities (including Ain Shams, Cairo University, and American University in Cairo), the diplomatic corps, government officials, directors of Egyptological institutes, researchers, heritage experts, and members of the Polish community. The event began with a warm welcome from Michał Chabros, charge d’affaires of Poland in Egypt, followed by a presentation from Dr. Anna Wodzińska, head of the Research Centre in Cairo of the PCMA UW. Dr. Wodzińska provided an overview of Polish research in Egypt, discussed the current activities of the Station, and presented plans and prospects.
The highlight of the event was the opening of the exhibition „Against the Sands of Time – Documentation and Reconstruction of the World Heritage — the Polish Experience”. The exhibition, which will soon be displayed on the fence of the Polish Embassy in Cairo, showcases Polish archaeological and conservation research at UNESCO World Heritage sites.
