However, you will be able to attend the lecture by Dr. Matthew Adams at an online seminar organized by the Department of Archaeology of Egypt and Nubia of the Faculty of Archaeology, University of Warsaw on 21st March at 4:45 pm (CET).

The PCMA UW Research Centre in Cairo invites to a lecture by Dr. Matthew Adams “More than a Valley of the Kings: Abydos in Early Egypt”. It will be part of the Kazimierz Michałowski Memorial Lecture series. The Kazimierz Michałowski Memorial Lecture Series (KaMMeL) is organized by the PCMA Research Centre in Cairo to commemorate the life of Kazimierz Michałowski, a pioneer of Polish archaeological research in Egypt and the founder of Polish Mediterranean archaeology.

Abstract: “Sustained work on the Early Dynastic components of ancient Abydos over the last two decades has resulted in important new understandings of the nature of the site at the beginning of Egyptian history. The results of the New York University mission’s work in north Abydos at a series of enigmatic monumental constructions contemporary with the Abydos royal cemetery of Dynasties I and II, will be discussed, including the most recent discoveries at the north Abydos brewery.”

Dr. Matthew Adams (New York University, Institute of Fine Arts) specializes in the archaeology of Predynastic and Early Dynastic Egypt. He directs excavations at Abydos, one of the most important centers in Upper Egypt.
