Additional information:
The temple was uncovered between 1962 and 1967 /1/. In 1976-1977, two MA theses were written on the basis of the photographic documentation of its reliefs. Work in the field was resumed in 1978 – this time, the aim was to study the preserved fragments of limestone and sandstone reliefs in order to reconstruct the temple’s decoration. Gradually, most of the pieces were fitted together, forming scenes and their sequences, and their location on the temple plan was determined. Thus, almost the entire decoration was reconstructed, and research on the temple’s function could begin.

Description of the site and research:
The Temple of Tuthmosis III in Deir el-Bahari /2/ was destroyed and completely buried by an earthquake at the beginning of the 21st dynasty. Earlier, it had served for some time as a source of stone – less than half of its walls with relief decoration have been preserved, in the form of loose stone fragments and blocks /7, 8, 9, 10/.
Thanks to the partly-preserved outlines of the walls on the floor, it was possible to recreate the plan of the temple /3/ and attempt to locate the reconstructed decoration on it. Currently, the work /21, 22, 23, 24, 25/ concentrates on further reconstruction of the scenes /12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19/, protection of the polychromies and documentation. The majority of the material is kept in a storeroom located near the temple /5/, while the rest in the temple itself and in a lapidarium. On the site of the temple, some bases and fragments of columns preserved in situ, a partly-reconstructed granite portal /4/ as well as few fragments of lower parts of walls are visible.
Since most of the east wall of the Sanctuary has been physically reconstructed, it can be now reerected in its original position /20/. Other parts of the temple, which have been virtually reconstructed, still require a lot of work from the conservators.
