Researchers studying the culture of the Ancient Egyptian Old Kingdom are meeting in Warsaw on 2-6 July 2014 at the sixth edition of the international “Old Kingdom Art and Archaeology” conference organized at the Institute of Archaeology of the University of Warsaw. Previous conferences were held in major centers of egyptological studies: Cairo, Paris, Munich, Prague and Cambridge. The present conference, gathering more than 50 dedicated researchers, is organized by Polish research institution, which have contributed the most to world egyptological studies on the art and archaeology of the Old Kingdom, the Institute of Mediterranean and Oriental Cultures of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Polish Center of Mediterranean Archaeology of the University of Warsaw, among others.
The leading Polish research project concerning the Old Kingdom in Egypt, carried out under the auspices of the Polish Centre of Mediterranean Archaeology (PCMA UW), are the excavations of the western necropolis in Saqqara, directed by Prof. Karol Myśliwiec (IKSiO PAN).
