At the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland we have been hosting a visit by Mr Sarkis El Khoury, the General Director in the Directorate General of Antiquities, in the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lebanon, and Ms Myriam Ziyade, the Director of the DGA in the region of the Chouf Mountains and Saida.
The visit underscores the long-lasting presence of the PCMA UW in Lebanon. The cooperation with our Lebanese partners, which began in 1996 in the ruins of the mountain village of Chhim, developed over the years to include a growing number of archaeological and conservation activities. In the recent years they took place within the framework of six archaeological and six conservation projects.
The program of the visit (5th – 11th October 2015) included meetings and consultations with representatives of the PCMA UW, the Institute of Archaeology UW, the Department of the Conservation and Restoration of Works of Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, the Heritage Protection Offices, with specialists from the Museum of King Jan III Palace at Wilanów, the National Museum in Warsaw, the Archaeological Museum in Krakow and the Historical Museum of Krakow. They participated also in the 2nd Congress of Polish Conservators (Warsaw–Krakow).
The visit will contribute to an intensification of scientific and cultural cooperation with Lebanon.
