In October, the second edition of “Heritage Month” PCMA Seminars focuses on methodologies and practice of collaborative archaeology with case studies from Italy, Egypt and Poland. The third lecture in the series will be “Community Archaeology in Rural Environments (CARE) project: reflections from Poland” presented by Dr. Patrycja Filipowicz (Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań).
Abstract: “Community Archaeology in Rural Environments – Meeting Social Challenges (CARE MSoC)” is an international research community archaeology project coordinated by the University of Lincoln. Faculty of Archaeology. Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań is one of the project’s partners, alongside the UK, Netherlands and Czech Republic.
In my paper, I intend to give an overview of the CARE project with a particular focus on its goals, theoretical foundations and methods. I will also scrutinize its outcomes in Poland. Between 2019 and 2021 three villages in distinct regions of Poland were chosen as case studies: Chycina (western Poland), Sławsko (Pomeranian region) and Biadki (central Poland). An overview of three years of experience in participatory engagement and work with these communities will be presented. In conclusion, I am going to compare the results and impact of the CARE project in Poland with other partner countries, as each of them represents different socio-cultural contexts.”
The seminar will be held on Thursday, 20st October, at 11.00 am CET on Zoom. To obtain links, please write to Dr. Tomomi Fushiya: t.fushiya@uw.edu.pl
This will be the last lecture in the series.
