Podczas czerwcowego seminarium PCMA z serii „Pot Talks (Rozmowy o garnkach) – Multidyscyplinarne podejście do ceramiki z obszaru Afryki i nie tylko”, dr Katarzyna de Lellis-Danys (CAŚ UW, MNW) wystąpi z prezentacją: „Strategies of dumping pottery in Roman port at Berenike, Red Sea Coast”.
Abstrakt: This paper explores daily life in Early Roman Berenike through pottery from refuse layers dated to the late 1st century BCE–early 2nd century CE. Excavated as part of the NCN-funded project Non-humans in the Berenike Community: Archaeozoological Data in the Discourse on Identity and Values in Antiquity, directed by Prof. Marta Osypińska (University of Wrocław), in consortium with the University of Warsaw, the assemblage reveals diverse transport and storage vessels from the Mediterranean, Nile Valley, South Arabia, and India.
The ceramics offer insights into midden formation, discard practices, and vessel life expectancy. Variations in function and origin reflect differing discard agencies, shedding light on the economic behaviours and everyday activities in this cosmopolitan Red Sea port.

Wykłady z tego cyklu obejmują tematy związane z multidyscyplinarnymi badaniami ceramiki, które umożliwią uczestnikom wymianę doświadczeń z badaczami pracującymi w różnych częściach Afryki i poza nią.
